Genealogy Center hours: update

The Genealogy Center is resuming its full, regular hours:

Monday: 1-4 pm

Thursday: 1-4 pm

Saturday: 1-4 pm

Genealogy Center closed 3/16-3/27

The Seldovia Genealogy and Family History Center will be closed from March 16-27. For assistance, please contact Sandee or email gen.cent.sov@gmail.com.

The main library will be open its usual, posted hours.

Genealogy group moving to new headquarters

The Seldovia Family Tree Searchers will be moving out of the library proper and into the former mental health office, on the lower floor of the Multipurpose Building. This will give them more space and more freedom to discuss their researches without worrying about bothering other library patrons, as well as internet access on their research computer. The new office will be opening on March 25. At present, regular hours are planned for Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1-4 pm although other times may be arranged by appointment by contacting Sandee Elvsaas or John & Mary Sanger (8010).

Genealogy help hours

Members of the Seldovia Family Tree Searchers have now established a schedule of when they will be on hand in the library to help with family history research. Jan Wyland will be in the library on Saturdays from 1-4 pm beginning March 25. Mary and John Sanger will be in the library on Wednesdays from 1-4 pm beginning March 1 (note: the library is only open for genealogy researchers on Wednesdays; there are no regular library services available on that day).

Genealogy at the library

Recent library visitors have noticed some new equipment being set up: a new computer and film reader. These belong to the Seldovia Family Tree Searchers genealogy group and are for the use of their members in researching their family trees. While the Searchers don't perform research for people, they're happy to help new members do their own research. Anyone is welcome to join the group and there is no membership fee. The equipment will be available only during regular library hours and under the supervision of Tree Searchers members. The group hopes to be able to expand their program in the months ahead to include training classes.
